DigiWorld: Digital Artistry ft. Jefferd Guesdan

Jefferd Guesdan: Digital Artist of Bulacan

Digital Art is one of the types of art that has emerged in the modern era, it refers to any artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process, or more specifically computational art that uses and engages with digital media. Digital art can be created by scanning, computer generating, and drawing with a mouse or digital pens.

The phrase digital art was initially used in the early 1980s when Harold Cohen, a pioneering digital artist, used paint software created by computer experts. A robotic device was created to create enormous designs on paper laid out on the floor, this became known as AARON. Cohen has continued to improve the AARON program as technology has advanced since this early effort into artificial intelligence. Because of advancements in digital technology, it was easy to download the video onto computers in the 1990s, enabling artists to edit the pictures they had captured on camera. In order to make visual collages, artists could now cut and paste within moving images, creative freedom they had never before had with films.

Currently, many artists are obsessed with this type of art. Newbies and veterans, both fall into its colorful world. And along with the rise of many Digital Artists in this era, comes Jefferd Guesdan, a 25-year-old Digital Artist from Bulacan. According to Jefferd, his creations are inspired by the surrealist fantasy that he has always been fond of.

Jefferd’s life as an Artist

Jefferd was in high school when he first discovered this art. According to our exclusive interview, he said that no one taught him to draw and create works, he only studied and practiced to gain knowledge in this type of field. Although Jefferd honed his skills by himself, he did not feel any difficulty or pressure in the beginning because, for him, this kind of art gave more meaning to his ideas and thoughts that solidified his wisdom in drawing and in digital art itself.

To further improve his skills in this art, Jefferd focused on conceptualizing ideas and developing them as a symbol or representation for a subject or theme. Other than this, Jefferd also engages ideas by reading books, constantly practicing, and participating in on-the-spot contests.

As for the execution of Digital Art, his approach is to conceptualize themes or inspirations, then draw them on a piece of paper as a draft, and finally, finish it with more details and lively colors that bring life to his works.

Art as Jefferd's tool in his life

Jefferd realized that Digital Arts was his passion when he started learning and fell in love with it. It was the first time he made his works that he found out that it gave him the ability to connect and communicate with people, and for him, this was the very time he said "this is what I'm made for". Since then, this has really become his no.1 hobby and his lifelong passion.

As for his personal life, this art has helped him by opening up more about how he understands everything from people's different perspectives and the vast idea that some things are just made up to have meaning or we just interpret it in our own way of understanding just to have meaning and with that, he knew which people he has to work with and to avoid.

Jefferd’s advise to young and aspiring artists

"Realism is not the peak of art. Be more into yourself and what you really want to do. Be inspired with other artists but don’t imitate their art style, make your own so that the world will recognize you for your own art and not by other’s artstyle."
